Cloud, DevOps & AI consulting
Stay focused on your product. I'll take care of what it runs on.
Your time should go to customers, the product, and the decisions only you can make. I take care of what sits underneath it: cloud cost and security, the pipelines that get your work shipped, and putting AI to real use.
- Cloud cost & FinOps
- Security reviews
- SOC 2 readiness
- Infrastructure as code
- CI/CD
- AI implementation
What I do
Where I'm most useful.
-
01
Cost & FinOps
Spend brought back in line with what you actually use, and a bill anyone on your team can explain.
-
02
Security reviews
The access and exposure gaps that make customers nervous, surfaced and prioritised before someone asks about them.
-
03
SOC 2 & audit readiness
An account in the shape an auditor expects, working alongside your auditor or compliance platform.
-
04
Infrastructure as code
The infrastructure that matters out of the console and into Terraform, with CI/CD your team runs on its own.
-
05
AI implementation
AI put to work on a real problem and run like production software, rather than a demo that never ships.
Who you'd be working with
Tom Roth
I ran CrossFit's AWS through the Open for several years. It's an online competition with over 400,000 athletes slamming the site with live events and leaderboarding all at the same time. After that I was a senior lead at Foghorn Consulting, an AWS Premier Partner, then a senior DevOps engineer at Jane Technologies.
Now I work with companies that DIY'd their infrastructure to get where they are and aren't ready to spend precious headcount on anything but product and growth. That's a fractional DevOps lead: senior engineering work on the parts that matter, without a full-time hire. The person on the intro call is the person who does the work. I'm based in Santa Cruz and work remotely with teams anywhere in the US.

Let's talk
Got something you'd rather not hire for?
A bill nobody can explain, an audit on the calendar, an AI project that needs to actually ship. Thirty minutes, no pitch. I'll tell you on the call whether it's worth doing.
